As a parent, there’s nothing more overwhelming than watching your newborn struggle—whether it's with constant fussiness, poor sleep, feeding issues, or just feeling generally uncomfortable from the start. I created this guide because I’ve lived through the confusion, the exhaustion, and the deep gut feeling that something was off—but not having the information or tools to fully help.
My first baby was born quickly and vaginally, with the tiniest mouth. He couldn’t latch, and every feeding was painful. Seeing an IBCLC helped to some extent—she recommended tongue and lip tie revisions, which we did at 4 weeks—but I still didn’t understand the full picture. She mentioned bodywork and chiropractic care, but I didn’t truly grasp how those things could have helped him avoid the airway dysfunction and behavioral challenges we now deal with. We're currently going through myofunctional therapy, and soon, palate expansion and orthodontics.
My second baby, born via cesarean, latched and fed well—but even he had struggles that didn’t show up right away. At 15 months, after many nights of disrupted sleep and constant night nursing, we discovered that his oral tethers and tension were preventing his nervous system from fully regulating. Just a month after his release, he slept through the night without needing me beside him—something I didn’t think would happen so soon. Regular chiropractic care, massage, and home-based techniques have continued to make a big difference.
With both of my boys, I still do lymphatic massage, head and neck work, inversions, and simple activities to support mobility and regulation. These small things add up, and they’re powerful when you know how to use them.
I created this guide because I wish we all had this kind of information from the start. The education to understand how it all connects—how oral development, birth history, tension, and airway health shape everything from feeding to sleep to long-term behavior and growth. We’ve evolved in ways that sometimes make these challenges more common, but there are things we can do to support our babies, starting now.
This guide is here to give families the tools to support their babies at home, and the resources to know when and where to seek extra help. Because when we know better, we can do better—not just for our babies, but for ourselves as parents. And when baby thrives, the whole family thrives.
